These delicious green beans are just as good as the ones you get from Chinese takeout.

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 lbs fresh green beans, washed, trimmed, and cut into 2-inch pieces

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

  • 1 tsp granulated sugar

  • 6 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp fresh grated ginger root (or a pinch of ground ginger powder)

  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes

  • 1 tbsp canola oil

  • toasted sesame seeds for garnish

  • Recommended for Serving
  • Sambal Oelek or Chili Garlic sauce

Directions

  • In a large pot of rapidly boiling water, cook green beans until just tender (about 6 minutes).
  • While beans are cooking, in a small bowl combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and ginger root, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
  • Drain beans, set aside.
  • Heat 1 tbsp. canola oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add garlic, cook stirring constantly until softened (20-30 seconds).
  • Add green beans, cook stirring and turning constantly, until well coated (about 2 minutes).
  • Add soy sauce mixture, continue to stir and turn until most of the liquid is absorbed (1-2 minutes).
  • Garnish with sesame seeds.
  • Serve and enjoy, pass Sambal Oelek at the table for each person to add their desired amount.
