I’ve tried many pepper steak recipes, I kept adjusting the ingredients until I came up with the tastiest version!

Ingredients

  • 3-4 lbs boneless beef chuck steak, cut into thin strips

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • Lawry’s Seasoned Salt

  • freshly ground black pepper

  • 2 tsp minced garlic

  • 3 tbsp flour

  • 1 cup beef broth

  • 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce (I use Kikkoman Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce)

  • 4 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tbsp freshly grated ginger root (or quarter tsp. ground ginger)

  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes

  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 2 tsp brown sugar

  • 1 yellow onion, diced

  • 1 package / 8 oz fresh mushrooms, sliced (optional)

  • 2 fresh roma tomatoes, peeled and diced

  • 1 green pepper, julienned

  • 1 red pepper, julienned

  • 1 can / 8 oz sliced water chestnuts, drained (optional)

  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Directions

  • Heat the tbsp. of olive oil in a large skillet and add the chuck steak.
  • Sprinkle lightly with seasoned salt and pepper and sauté with the minced garlic and red pepper flakes until lightly browned.
  • Transfer the chuck steak to a large slow cooker.
  • Mix the 3 tbsp. of flour with the beef broth and pour over the meat.
  • Add the teriyaki sauce, Worcestershire sauce, onions, mushrooms (optional), tomatoes, brown sugar, oyster sauce, and ginger root.
  • Stir well, and cook on high for two hours.
  • Turn the heat down to low, add the green and red peppers, water chestnuts (optional), and sesame oil.
  • Cook for an additional 1-1/2 hours,
  • Serve over steamed rice.

Notes

  • You can peel the tomatoes by slicing an ‘X’ into the top of each one and plunge them into boiling water for a couple of minutes, then place them into an ice bath, and the skins will slip right off.
